Business Initiative Leading Development (BUILD)
Mr. Asif Ibrahim was born in Dhaka, Bangladesh in the year 1965. He received his formal education from the University of Delhi (India) and the University of North Texas (USA). Mr. Ibrahim is the Vice Chairman of Newage Group of Industries, a business house involved mainly in manufacturing and exporting ready-made garments, textiles and plastic products. The Ministry of Commerce of the Government of Bangladesh awarded him the Commercially Important Person (CIP) status in the year 2007 and 2012 for his contribution in national export.
Mr. Asif Ibrahim is the former President (2011-2012) of the Dhaka Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DCCI), the largest SME Trade Body of Bangladesh. He is currently the Chairman of Business Initiative Leading Development (BUILD), a Public Private Dialogue platform to expedite the policy reforms to enable private sector led economic growth of Bangladesh. Mr. Ibrahim is a member of UNESCAP Business Advisory Council and is the Chairman of the UNESCAP Sustainable Business Network Taskforce on Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR). He is also a member of the Executive Committee of Bangladesh Employers’ Federation (BEF) and also the Director of Bangladesh Philippines Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BPCCI) and Bangladesh Thai Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BTCCI). Mr. Ibrahim served as a board member of Federation of Bangladesh Chamber of Commerce and Industry (2012-2015) and was the Chairman of the Privatization Standing Committee of FBCCI. He has previously been in the Board of France Bangladesh Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCIFB) and is also the Former Chairman of the Research Cell of Bangladesh Garments Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA). Mr Ibrahim is a member of the Board of Advisers for BRAC Business School (BBS) under BRAC University.
